I think too many times I get too caught up in trying to accomplish something in bible studying. I obsess over bible study plans and bible study groups and bible study books. I get so hyper focused (and hyper stressed) about finding good plans, groups, and books to dive into that I completely miss the point: To study the Bible.
And as a was reading through some verses on my bible app today (something I admittedly do not do as often as I would like) I realized something. Bible study can be as simple as sitting down and reading the Bible. It doesn’t always have to be accompanied by a devotional or a discussion group. Sometimes it can just be you, the Word and God. And you know what? That is enough.
Yeah, the devotionals and discussions are great for helping to break down things you don’t understand on your own. But if you are anything like me, scouring the vast selections of reading plans on apps, perusing bookstores for new devotionals, and anxiously looking for another bible study group to join, you feel exhausted before you’ve even begin the actual studying. So sometimes the easiest thing to do is open up the Book and start reading. I have (and I hope you have) faith enough to believe that what God needs to say, He will say even without the added help. When life gets too complicated, let’s just keep it simple.
So grab a cup of tea (or coffee), your favorite bible, and a comfy seat, and spend some time with God’s Word today.
